A Conversation with…(English 4, 1st Hour)

Tell me and your classmates about a favorite character from film, theater, or literature, with whom you’d like to have a “heart-to-heart.” What would you talk about? Be sure to be detailed, specific, and INTERESTING. Your goal in this post is to SHOW us, not TELL us.

I would like to have a conversation with Shakespeare. I think he is one of the best screen writers of his time and ours. I would ask him, “Why plays, why the theater?” What was his drive to make these plays?

Ferris Beuller was a young, rebellious teen in the 1986 movie, Ferris Buellers Day Off. In this story, Ferris goes through a multitude of events that include skipping school, attending and visiting many functions, being the main float in a Chicago parade and even managing to start a charity in his honor. Throughtout his eventful day, Ferris never misses a beat. I guess I would say Ferris is a very influential character. Ferris lives under the notion that good things will naturally happen to him. If I could have heart to heart with Ferris, I would tell him about how much I strive to have the carefree-ness that he obtains. I would want to ask him how he became the person he is. Ferris completely belives in the ‘what comes around, goes around’ theory. He can never pity himself because he knows that good things are right around the corner. He believes that the people that bring him down will eventually come up. This makes him such an influential character because he posses a trait that most people in our society today do not have. Our society is full of self pity and people tend to want to expand on the really bad things that have happened instead of their accompIishments. Ferris knows that the bad things in life are always going to get better. He would rather focus on all the things he has done with his life than all of the bad things that have happend to him. He has no self pity.I want to be able to have the attitude he has towards his entire life and enforce that in mine. Somebody else would look at Ferris Bueller and see a rebellious, troublemaking teen. When I look at Ferris, I see a dreamer, somebody who is not afraid to be himself, and somebody who could really be an influence on the people of our society.

If I could imagine you in any movie, you would definitely be in an 80’s movie! You definitely have the quirky personality of 80’s movie characters and I can see why you chose Ferris Bueller as your character to have a heart to heart with!

I absolutely love this movie. Ferris Bueller is the man. No one else can pull a “Ferris Beuller” as well as himself. Great character Luci 🙂

I thought Jodee Blanco; author of Please Stop Laughing At Me was very inspirational. Jodee’s inspirational book about school bullying was very compelling and appealing to me. Having been in the same situation as her before, I can relate to a lot of her stories and personal courage for standing up for herself. If I got the chance to have a heart to heart with Jodee, I would ask her why she felt that everyone should know about her emotional and devastating experiences she had while growing up. Why did she keep pushing through school as hard as she did, even when she knew the problems weren’t getting any better? This book was emotionally difficult for me to get through, but I’m glad I did! I think very highly of Jodee Blanco and her personal choices.

I love the thought and emotion that you put into this. The questions you asked really made me think about how she would personally reply. It would be really interesting to know what she would say!

My favorite character in film would be Vin Diesel (Dominic) from the Fast & Furious movies. I feel like out of all the actors out there, I would relate to him the best. I love cars and anything to do with racing and so does he. If I had to have a heart-to-heart with him I would talk to him about the stress in my life. It seems like in the movies nothing works out in his favor. Some kind of trouble or heart ache always comes into his life, and he actually handles it rather well. I know that movies are sometimes exaggerated, but you can tell that not all of it is fictional. I feel like Vin Diesel could give me a different look on how to deal with “bumps in the road”.

I would like to have a heart to heart conversation with Whinnie The Pooh. We would talk about what we have acheived and things we want to achieve. Also, we would talk about how all of the loving family and friends effect our lives.

I love the idea of taking to whinnie the pooh!! There’s always that one person you can talk to that makes you feel better and happier. I feel that he would be that person (or should I say bear).

I would like to have a hear to heart conversation with Walt Disney. I think he was a very inspiring writer and film maker. I would ask him how he comes up with all of his script ideas for his tv shows and movies. I would also ask him why he chose to be a writer and producer.

I would like to have a talk with Micheal Jordan. I want to know what his mind set was at my age. What made his mind just go from nothing to wanting to be the best. I like how he put his all in to what he does. He never wanted to give up he just kept wanting to be the best in everything. Thats why he is the best of all time, even he was the best he still strived to get better.

If I could have a “heart to heart” with someone it would be Gary Bertier from Remember the Titans. I would ask him how he found the courage and strength to stand up next to his friends and team even when everyone else said it was wrong. Everyone looked differently at him and although he faltered a few times he still managed to stand up next to his teammates and friends. I wish i had the courage and strength he did.

I agree with Kelsey 100%! It is hard sometimes to stand up for what you believe in (especially in high school). Sometimes we feel so helpless, like our problems couldn’t possibly get any worse. But I think that it’s all about perspective. If I begin to think about all of the heart-aches in the world ( like the tsunami in the Philippines) my problems suddenly don’t seem that important in comparison to what other people are suffering through. I begin to feel so blessed for all that I have instead of angry because of what I think I need.

If I could choose one person to have a “heart to heart” conversation with, it would be Bethany Hamilton. To me she is one of the most inspirational athletes of all time. Her story is told through the movie Soul Surfer and I have seen it more times than I can count. She is so strong in her faith and that is something that is truly inspirational to me. She devotes her whole life to Christ in whatever she does and I strive to do the same. If I could talk to her, I would ask her what it means to her to be a follower of Christ. I would ask her how she stayed so strong and positive during the hardest time in her life. I would also ask her what it is like to be a professional surfer and live in Hawaii!

I agree! I wonder what it feels like to live in Hawaii, and to be a surfer. I too think Bethany Hamilton is a very inspirational person. Her personality casts out a very positive vibe to all the movies she has been in. Good reply!

I would love to have a heart to heart with Princess Merida from Brave. Disney movies have always been my favorite movies, and Brave is one of my top picks. Merida is a strong girl with a mind of her own, and doesn’t conform to what her family wants. She decides her own fate, and I wouldn’t want someone to choose mine for me.

I would like to have a heart-to-heart with the Joker. I would like to know what he thinks about and why he became the way he is. It would be interesting to hear abut his childhood and the reason behind his insanity. I want to know how he really got his scars, what is his drive, and what makes him want to dress like a clown.

I would like to have a conversation with Andie(Briana Evigan) from the movie Step Up 2. She is the main character of the movie and she doesn’t care about anything except dancing with her crew. She loves dancing with her crew more than anything. She puts dance before everything and practically makes it her life. I would love to have a conversation with her because we both have the same feelings about dancing.I may not dance with a street crew, but i do dance on a dance team and the dance team is where my passion is at. Dancing is the light of my day and i feel that it is the same for hers too. Working on getting better in dance and focusing on that helps me cope with a lot of other things I have to do,especially my education. Anyways, I just feel like her and I would have a lot in common when it comes to dance. With the way we feel about our dancing career, we have a lot in common, and I feel that we would never run out of things to say.

If I could have a heart-to-heart with anyone famous, it would be Marilyn Monroe. He was an amazing model and actress back in her day. Even though she’s not alive, I would still love to talk to her about her accomplishments. I want to know how she became a model and actress. I also want to know how she overcame her obstacles with the press, fans, and rumors about her affairs, to get to her main goals and exceed them.

If I could have a “heart to heart” with anyone, it would be Audrey Hepburn. She was a very kind and loving person. And like me, she was very shy. Since she was an actress and played many roles that required outgoing behavior, she found a way to overcome it and she became one of the most famous actresses of her time. I would ask her what did she do to overcome her shyness and follow her dreams.

I strongly agree with this Lanie. Her personality in this movie reminds me of you. You and her have a lot of similarities, and I believe you guys would have a great heart-to-heart.

If i could have a heart-to-heart with any film maker it would be with Reese Witherspoon from legally blonde. I would want to have a heart to heart with her because our personalities are alike. For example, in the movie legally blonde she is having boy problems. We would have a heart to heart about boys and whats going on with our realtionships. She would be funny and give me good advise. But she would still be serious at the same time. When I talk about problems I i laugh about the stuff that makes me mad and im serious about the stuff that i wanna fix. This is why i would like to have a heart to heart with her.

If I had the chance to have a heart to heart with someone it would be with Nicholas Sparks. I really relate to his book, they are very touching. I would ask him what made him write a lot of his books. For example, My Sister’s Keeper, it is very sad but he must have a reasoning behind the books. I would like to know the stories in which he wrote the books. The books really touch my heart and I know they reach out to others also. He seems like a very nice and easy going guy by the way he writes his book. I think he would be a great person to have a heart to heart with and I think he would have a great understand of my life and I would love to know his and the reasoning for his books.

If I could have a “heart to heart” with anybody it would be the character Angel from the musical “Rent”. I would choose her because all throughout the musical you witness the hard times she went through yet not once did she ever break. As a cross dressing gay man she faced a lot of ridicule and challenged the AIDS virus and homelessness and you still never saw her without a smile on her face. If I could have a heart to heart with her I’d ask her how she could face everything she did and never let it get to her. How she even went as far as making sure the people she cared about were happy then left to sleep at a homeless shelter for the night and still live like she didn’t have a care in the world.

I would like to meet and have a talk with muhammad ali. I think it would be cool to talk about what made him get into boxing. I want to know his technique and fighting style more in depth. I wonder what gave him his drive to be so passionate about his sport. Finding out what kind of person he is outside of sports would be just as nice. I want to know if he is just as confident outside of the ring as he is in the ring.
